Promise of Comfort

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. (Psalm 18:2-3)

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my refuge, and my strength.  In all of this I receive comfort.  No one can give me greater comfort than the Lord.  The Lord’s arms are always open to me.  He is always ready to love me.  He is my Father.  The One who holds and knows all of my tears (Psalm 56:8).  The One who soothes my aching heart with the balm of His presence.  God is truly my comfort!  I run to Him and I am safe.

“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 66:13)

I understand this verse so well now that I’m a mother.  I will do almost anything to comfort my son when he is afraid, sick, or just tired.  I love him.  I would lay down my life for him quickly.  I hold him tight and pray over his sweet life.  I pray that God will be the comfort of his soul for many years to come.  I’m limited in how much I can truly comfort my son.  But God is not limited.  He has a limitless supply of comfort and that comfort is mine whenever I need it.  I can crawl right on up in to my Father’s lap and lay down the burdens of my heart.  He hears them.  He cares about them.  He promises to comfort me through them.  It’s more beautiful than I can comprehend.

“May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.” (Psalm 119:76)

God’s love is unfailing.  It is steady!  It is my comfort.  His love motivates me to move forward.  His love comforts me and calms my greatest fears.  The Lord is my refuge. He is my strength.  He is the lifter of my countenance.  My comforter!

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”  (Psalm 23:4)

Dear Father God, Thank You for the reminder that no matter how bad things get, I can find comfort in You.  Your love will not fail me.  I crawl into Your loving arms today and ask that You will bring comfort to my aching heart.  I rest in who You are and find comfort in the fact that every promise in Your Word is mine.  Your promises sustain and keep me!  They are the water that quenches my thirsty soul.  Thank You for being my everything!

Loving You Lord,
