But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.  For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.  He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.  Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (1 Thessalonians 4:8-11)

This is a great way to start the week.  This passage is packed full of sweet morsels to get you through a new day.  I pray this acronym below encourages you and uplifts you in many ways.

F aith: Always begin your day with prayer.  We are not able to practice self-control when we do not put our lives into God’s hands, as only God gives us the strength to truly be self-controlled.  Then exercise faith in every action throughout your day.  The above verse says to put on faith and love as a breastplate.  If you look at Ephesians 6, you will find the importance of putting on the  armor of God.  You can refer to this in my post called Never Leave Home w/o It! God wants you to be fully equipped in His armor daily.

hOpe: There is absolutely no hope without salvation.  The only hope we have is in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  If you need to read more about this you can refer to Your Table is Ready.  When you take the time to put the helmet of salvation on, you are choosing to protect your thoughts and the sin that wants to so easily entangle you.  Yes, we have a hope in Jesus, but sin wants to invade the mind.  That’s why we have the helmet of salvation, our hope in Jesus Christ, who was, and is, and is to come!  May you find peace in the One who gives you hope today!

Constant: “He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him (vs. 10).”  God is calling us to be constant.  What do your actions say about your character?  How do people view Jesus through your actions and words?  Are you the same whether in church or at work?  What will be your legacy?

bUild: The Bible constantly leads Christians back to building each other up in love.  Have you encouraged someone today?  Have you built someone up with your words?  It is important to remember that you can easily make someone crumble with your words or you can easily build them up.  What would you rather do?  The Bible has called you to build them up, so let’s build each other up.

Straight ahead: This week I challenge you to be focused on what God has for you.  Be looking straight ahead and don’t be distracted by the things that do not matter.  May God continue to call you forward in many great things!

FOCUS

Dear Father God, I pray that You will help me be focused on the things of You.  May I be found Faithful and put my hOpe in You.  You are my everything and I continue to be grateful for everything You do in my life.  Thank You for always being Constant.  I pray that I will be used to bUild the body of believers up.  And most of all Lord, I pray that I will look Straight ahead to You, the One who has called me forward to great things!

My FOCUS is on You Lord,
