Jonah Moments ~ Part 3

Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time: Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.  Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh… (Jonah 3:1-3)

Jonah Moments ~ Part 1

Jonah Moments ~ Part 2

This passage of Scripture amazes me.  I just love how God gives Jonah a second chance to be obedient.  This is God’s grace in its finest form.  We never deserve a second chance.  We should respond to God the first time, with a great attitude, and immediately do what He asks.  But how often does that happen.  If you’re anything like me, there are times that you have to think through what God is asking and sometimes you simply run away from it.  Thankfully God doesn’t give up on us!

He came to Jonah in the same way with the same question.  He was giving Jonah an opportunity to make things right.  Do you need to make things right with God?  God has given you today, right now, this moment to make things right with Him.  You may not get a third opportunity, so don’t miss out on this moment.  Stop and change directions if need be.

God’s grace is amazing.  The Greek definition of grace is “that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness 2) good will, loving-kindness, favour 2a) of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues.” This is the kind of grace that God demonstrated in giving Jonah a second chance.  Have you experienced God’s amazing grace lately?

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Challenge: Read Jonah 3

Apply the Word: Have you experienced a second chance with God?  Take time to respond to God’s grace in your life!

Memory Verse: Jonah 2:8

Dear Father God, Thank You for continuing to amaze me!  Thank You for second chances!  Most of all thank You for the grace that is poured out in abundance on my life through Your Son Jesus Christ.  I know I don’t deserve it, but I humbly receive it.  I’m so grateful to You for Your unending flow of mercy and grace in my life.

God’s Grace Still Amazes Me,
