Wisdom Proverbs Jesus

Glimpses of Eternity

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6)

This is one of my favorite verses that Jesus spoke in the sermon on the mount.  It speaks to the truth inside all of us.  We all hunger for something beyond what anything in this world can satisfy.  At times we might try to satisfy that hunger with temporary things or people, but eventually we come to realize that God is the only One who can fully satisfy the hunger within us.

He sent His Son to be the bread of life, to renew a relationship with us.  He is the living water, ready to quench the thirst of our souls on a daily basis.  It’s time to go back to the fountain and draw from the source of living water.  On this earth, we will have moments of hunger and thirst, which can only be satisfied in God alone through His Word.

But even beyond that, there is a deep yearning, longing, hunger for more.  Eternity is something we have to look forward to when we have surrendered our lives to Jesus Christ.  Everything on this earth is a shadow of the reality for which God is setting up for us in His Kingdom.  Prepare yourself to be inspired by His Truth. Don’t be afraid to hunger and thirst for more.  Continue to live in His footsteps and reach for righteousness in your Heavenly Father!

Lord, I pray that You will increase my hunger and my thirst for You!  May I desire to walk in Your ways alone.  May I walk forward in righteousness, leading a life more rightly before You!  I am Yours, take me as I am and make me into all that You desire me to be!

Deeply Yearning for Eternity,

    jesusandthebible says:

After Mt. 5:6, Jesus adds in Mt. 6:33 to seek first his kingdom and righteousness–after warning disciples not to seek or work hard for (the best) regular food and drink (6:25-32). Similarly, in Jn. 6 Jesus tells the crowd that ate the miraculously multiplied loaves and fish: “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life” (6:27). As you point out, that eternal food is the bread of life, Jesus (6:35).
