He Shattered the Silence
See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty. (Malachi 3:1)
Do you know that there were 400 years of silence between the last prophecy in the Old Testament and the first event in the New Testament? There were over 300 Messianic Prophecies in the Old Testament. These prophecies shared when Jesus would come, where He would be born, what His ministry would look like, how He would live, how He would die, and how He would be resurrected.
The Old Testament painted a beautiful picture of who the Savior would be and all that He would do. The New Testament shares the life of Christ and all He did do for us. But can you imagine living in the “400 years of silence”. To tell you the truth; I struggle waiting 4 weeks, 4 days, even 4 hours for something. Let alone 4 hundred years.
In a moment, the silence was shattered. A little baby boy was born in Bethlehem and His cry pierced the dark period of waiting. His cry filled the earth with peace. God took on human form to have a relationship with us. He sent His Son to fulfill the Law for us. I’m so glad that I live in a period after all these things have taken place. I get to look at the Old and New Testament and see the work of God. I see the finished product of Jesus. I never had to wait for the answer. The Answer died on a cross long before I was born.
I’m not sure what you are waiting for in this moment or what your silence may look like. But I can assure you, God will speak through it. He will be faithful. If 400 years isn’t too long to see the faithfulness of God, then the time that you are waiting is not too long either. Wait on the One who knows you best! May we celebrate the day God broke through the silence and came near! May we celebrate the fact that God is with us!
“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” –which means, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)
