Handing Over the Paintbrush
…Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)
This is one of my favorite verses! I love that I’m called to forget what lies behind me. Yesterday can only trip me up if I let it. I make the choice daily to start fresh with a clean slate. God’s mercies are new for me each morning. What an amazing thought! I don’t have to live on yesterday’s mercies and I don’t have to wallow in all that wasn’t accomplished. For today is a new day and God has something beautiful in store for it.
“Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23, NKJV)
Every time I watch a sunset, I’m reminded of this. As the sun sets and gives way to the night, painting it’s brilliant colors in the sky… I’m reminded that tomorrow is a new day with new colors that God wants to paint into my life. I’ve never seen the same sunset twice. In that I mean, the colors of each sunset are vastly different. Just like my life! The colors of today come out in different ways. Every day, I’m a brand new canvas for the Lord to paint His marvelous work in!
Dear Father God, Thank You so much for giving me new mercies every morning! I look forward to the colors You will paint in my life today, so as I say this I hand the paint brush over to You! I know You will be faithful to paint a masterpiece in me!
