DOW ~ No Bankruptcy Here!
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
This passage of scripture is often used when discussing missions. It’s a familiar passage to many. There is one thing that I want to make a little more familiar to you. Let’s discuss two words in this passage and what they mean in our lives.
“Therefore go!”
What did Jesus mean when He said go? Was He talking to all of us? Where are we supposed to go?
First of all, yes, Jesus was talking to all of us. Each one of us has the ability to go and make disciples when we go in His name.
How can this be?
The power/authority Jesus is talking about is “exousia” in Greek, it is a power that serves and comes under those who are around you. A power that comes into the lives of those who do not know Jesus to lift up His name and make Him known. Remember, Jesus came to this earth as a baby. He gave simple illustrations like the last shall be first (Matthew 19:30) and the meek shall inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5). This is the power/authority that Jesus was given. He demonstrated this while on earth and before He left, He gave a commission to use this power to let others know what His life represented.
What did Jesus mean when He said go?
Jesus was talking to His disciples who were already in the process of going. They were already doing the work of His Father in Heaven. The Greek language let’s us know that the “Go” in this passage really means “going” or “to pursue the journey on which one has entered.” Have you entered the journey to live for Christ? If you have, then you have signed up to go and lead others into the knowledge of who Jesus is? While you are going, while you are living each day, you are able to share the relationship you have with Jesus with those you come in contact with.
Where are we supposed to go?
Yes, some are called to teach and preach in other nations. In fact, my husband’s parents will be heading back to Indonesia tomorrow and I would appreciate your prayers, as they continue their work with the Indonesians. God has called them to this work and they have seen many come to the Lord through their ministry. It is a blessing to watch them reach the lost through their testimony of faith, as they “GO!”
At the same time, in no less way it is a blessing to watch their five children be about their Father’s work in the mission field each one of them has been called to. The oldest has the ability to teach through music and her gift enables her to spread joy through this ministry. She is an artist at heart and has a knack at creativity in various ways. The second owns a Chick-fil-A where Jesus is shared daily in the lives that walk through the doors of the restaurant and families experience a touch of who God is. Yet, the third lives in the city reaching out to her community with giving rides to church, greeting people at her church, and often greeting strangers to share her heart of love. The second to last son is a father to three wonderful children. He is raising a legacy, three lives that will continue to make this world a better place far reaching beyond his own life. His time and his priceless gift of words in their lives are treasures few children get to grow up with in this day and age. The last son is a pilot, he has the opportunity to be a witness for Jesus to every pilot he flies with and every flight attendant he comes in contact with. He is able to buy a cup of coffee and share the love of Jesus with his words and his life. All of these children have been raised to lead lives that will leave lasting impressions on this earth. They are in the process of “going” for the Lord and their lives show it every day!
The Lord desires to see you use your life for His glory every day, not just the days you feel good! He wants you to be about His Father’s business even when you don’t feel like it. We are in a family owned company, a company that won’t go bankrupt! A company where the stocks are going up every day. You can put your bonds and your gold in Jesus. You can let people know about the good news in Jesus, for the value in Him will never decrease! The DOW is going up! Praise Jesus, the Truth can and will set people free! This DOW is “Dis One Wins”! In Jesus, we always win…there are no losers, no bankruptcy, no losing stock, no losing your retirement, no losing your gold, no losing the house, etc. In Him, You will find your way home, your account full, your life filled up, and hope for a better tomorrow because Heaven is just a wink away in God’s time!
Remember, Jesus + nothing = everything!
Dear Father God, Please help us to be about the business of going for You. May we make a conscious decision to help others see who You are wherever we are at all times! May our lives be changed daily as we our renewed by Your strength and look forward to the day that we can be with You in glory! Thank You for being the One who wins this war for us through the blood of Your Son. Help us to rejoice daily, even if the circumstances in life don’t call for rejoicing! I love you Lord with all my heart!
