Develop a Pattern of Grace

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

I don’t know about you but I tend to show myself very little grace. I can accept the grace that God gives me but showing myself grace is a whole other story. No one can possibly be harder on me than I am on myself. I want to get things right the first time. I want to get control of this ugly, sinful nature that resides in me. I want so badly to live fully abandoned to Christ, but daily struggles get in the way.

The Lord has shown me over and over again how important it is to develop a pattern of grace in my life. I have learned that when I go to bed at night, I can’t think about what I didn’t get done or the unending list that consumes my day. I need to celebrate every little thing that I accomplished, no matter how small it is. The enemy wants to nag at my mind with all the things that have yet to get done or the endless times I failed during the day. He wants me to go to sleep with the weight of the world on my mind. But God’s Word says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).” And again Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.”

Jesus also mentioned this in the Gospels when he said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).” We cannot go to sleep at night weighed down by the burdens and cares of this life or we will start to wake up with joy as the last thing on our minds. We need to stop at night and praise God for everything He accomplished through us. Every little detail matters to him. Go to sleep resting in the Father’s arms, rejoicing in what you accomplished in your day.

Then wake up, ready for a brand new day, a day filled with God’s rich mercies. You don’t have to live on what God gave you yesterday because today is a brand new day filled with new mercies that you can draw from. Wake up rejoicing that God has given you one more day. You have a brand new opportunity to serve the Father and give him your best. A brand new day to live out the mercies he has so lavishly poured out on your life.

May today be marked with beauty as we celebrate our King and live our lives to honor him.

Lord, please help us be productive today. May we develop a pattern of grace that resembles what you have promised us in your Word. May we cling to you and rejoice in the new mercies you have given us today. May we lay down every care and burden of our heart at your feet and trust in you for what’s to come!
