Childlike Faith

If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; thought he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. (Psalm 37:23-24)

I watched a great display of childlike faith when my family was here to visit.  My nephew Andrew has managed to teach me many lessons of my Father in Heaven through his 5 years of life.  The above photo is a perfect example of one recent lesson Andrew taught me.

He would jump from the edge of the pool into his dad’s arms.  Notice, he has the floaties on his arms… so no matter what he would float.  Yet, I watched Andrew say these words to his Dad, “Come closer Dad.”  Andrew wanted to make sure that his dad would be there to catch him when he jumped.  Dustin reassured him and let him know that he would be there.  Dustin didn’t move closer, he didn’t argue with his son, he simply let him know that he would catch him when he jumped. Dustin has been an amazing father to his children, they have never had to doubt his love for them.  They have never had to wonder if he will be there to catch them when they jump.  He has given them no reason to doubt his love.

I often have similar questions for my Father in Heaven.  Lord, will you catch me?  Do you mind coming a bit closer?  Lord, will your hands catch me when I fall?  Oh Lord, can you help me with this next leap of faith?  Life is filled with wonder and many times I find myself taking leaps into my Father’s arms.  Often, during the jump… I can’t see His hands.  I’m jumping blindly into the hands that hold me fast.  The hands that have never let me down.  I jump knowing that God is faithful!  I jump trusting in His promises.  I jump knowing that God has never given me a reason to doubt His love.

Is there an area of your life that you need to trust God with?  Are you ready to jump?  Do you know that God will be there to catch you?  He cares deeply for you and will never let you down!  Feel free to jump into the arms that promise to sustain you!

But now, this is what the LORD says—he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I WILL BE WITH YOU; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” (Isaiah 43:1-3)

Dear Abba, I trust in Your unfailing love.  You have been there to catch me time and again.  I know that I need not fear anything in life, for You will be the One to comfort and guide me.  I trust You with my life and freely jump into the arms that hold me fast.  Thank You for Your tremendous faithfulness in my life!
