Bungee Jumping for Jesus
Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. (Genesis 5:24)
Today I had the opportunity to hear about someone who has bungee jumped off of the second highest bridges in America. It is called The New River Gorge Bridge and it is located in West Virginia. The bridge is mammoth in size. It’s length measures 3,030 feet and it’s height is 876 feet. I was quite impressed by everything I heard. Then I heard even more. This person rock climbs, rolls down hills in big ball type things, climbs big mountains, and water skis on one ski. There were a few other things that were mentioned, but by this point I was too awe struck to remember.
OH, by the way I forgot to mention something… This woman I’m talking about is 80 years old. She takes a number of vitamins a day and does not take any medication. She does do all the activities I mentioned and even more. Isn’t that incredible. Her life is full. I can’t even get up on two skis to water ski, trust me I’ve tried. Downhill skiing I can do, but water skiing I can’t. My dad tried to get me on skiis, but it just didn’t work. I was so impressed to hear about this woman today who is the aunt, of the man, at the vitamin store I go to. This woman has decided to live every day to the fullest. She has not sat around wandering what life could be like, she has lived it. She is living it every day. Age has not defined who she is, she has defined age. I love it!
This is how I have always looked at age. It’s just a number. The only one who can define the terms is the one who is living the life. I’m here to celebrate the life I have lived and will continue to live. I look forward to the years I have ahead of me. I pray I can live a full life like the woman I heard about today. Maybe I won’t be jumping off a bridge, but I pray I continue to take great risks for God. In fact, that’s what I was thinking about when I chose the verse above.
We don’t know much about Enoch. We know his heritage goes back to Cain. We know he lived to be 365 years old. Then we have one simple verse, one statement about Enoch’s life, one legacy left for all mankind.
“Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” (Genesis 5:24)
What does it mean? How do we interpret what we see? Well, at first glance I think to myself Enoch was living life. He was like the 80 year old woman I met today. He didn’t let a moment slip by. He lived 365 years on this earth and not a moment of it was spent in vain. Okay, I’m sure he wasn’t bungee jumping, rolling down hills, and probably not skiing. No, I’m sure his life was even more exciting. Indeed, the writer of Hebrews tells us exactly that…
“By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.” (Hebrews 11:5)
I want to live life like Enoch did. He was not sitting in a corner waiting for God to take him away. No, the Bible says that Enoch walked with God. In order to do this, you must be active. Enoch must have been going places spiritually, physically, and emotionally. He was connected to God and doing the Father’s work.
Do you have a heart like Enoch?
Will you live like Enoch did?
We never know how many days we are given on this earth. It does not matter if you are young or if you are younger. I’m sorry, but you are never old! My grandfather was 96 when he passed away and to this day I never thought he was old. He was always young to me because he lived like he was young. You have a choice to live each day that you are given. You also have a choice to give your life over to Jesus. Surrender to the One who knows you. There is no excuse to not be ready when you leave this earth whether you be 7 or 97. It’s not about years. Please read “Table for Two”, if you are wanting to know more about Jesus.
Celebrate today like it’s the best day you’ve been given! Live today like it’s the last day you have to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
Dear Father God, Thank You for the moments we are given on this earth. I pray I live each one to the fullest. May I celebrate today in the best way I can and live out the moments I have to share the Gospel message. May I continue to surrender my life to Your will and enjoy Your sweet embrace!
