Bow Only to God

Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.  Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.  Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.  Though it cost all you have, get understanding. (Proverbs 4:5-6)

Read Proverbs 6 today!

The Image of Gold and the Fiery Furnace (Daniel 3)

I’m sure many of you are familiar with the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.  Their story reminds us that the only One we are to bow to is God alone.  He is the only One deserving of our honor and respect.  The fear of the Lord begins with knowledge that nothing deserves our utmost respect more than the Lord.  We need to constantly be aware of the idols in our lives and refuse to bow to them.  May we surrender the things that get in the way of us truly being in reverence of the Lord.  May nothing take the place of God in our lives!

Here are the words of the three brave men who faced the fiery furnace, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.  If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king.  But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up (Daniel 3:16-18).”

What do you find when you look at the throne of your heart?  Is God there?  Or are your worries, fears, anxieties, children, possessions, and pride there?  We all need to take the time to acknowledge what is truly occupying the throne of our hearts.  Is it Jesus?  If not, something needs to change.  Only Jesus deserves the throne.  Only He died for our sins that we might live in the freedom God provides.

Dear Father God, Please help me to see where I have placed You to the side and given over the throne of my heart to the things of this world.  I pray that anything that is not of You will be removed from my heart.  May the throne of my heart be occupied by Jesus alone and may my life reflect the glory of my King!

I Bow Only to God, My King!
